Moving Woodbridge Forward, Not Backward

Once again, United for Woodbridge is misrepresenting critical information to push its narrow agenda

Both United for Woodbridge and its allies, a Common Ground for Woodbridge, have made a habit of twisting facts and misleading residents.

  • United for Woodbridge is a political action committee formed to oppose the sale of town-owned property. (read on

  • Common Ground for Woodbridge is a political campaign committee formed to run the Republican-endorsed candidates under a new name. (read on)

Their latest accusations about Fountain Street are no different.

Here are the facts

  • The Fountain Street project was not proposed by the First Selectman or the WDTC. It was a private property proposed development, decided independently by the Town Plan & Zoning Commission, which is not under the authority of the First Selectman or the WDTC.

  • The WDTC has never, until now, taken an official position on the application for housing at Fountain Street. Any suggestion otherwise is a deliberate distortion. You may read our public statement here.

  • This statement was made necessary to shed light on the intentional misrepresentation of our position by both United for Woodbridge and the Republican endorsed ticket running as Common Ground for Woodbridge.

A recent United for Woodbridge communication claimed:

WDTC chair Ellen Scalettar herself spoke approvingly of an apartment building at this ecologically sensitive site. She said: “There is a financial imperative for Woodbridge to expand our housing opportunity…With appropriate modifications, I hope this project will be an asset to the town.”

Not only did Mrs. Scalettar clearly announce that her comments were being made solely as a resident, and not in any other capacity, but she also provided comments that raised concerns about the project. We encourage you to listen to the entire comment for yourself here.

The real reason Woodbridge is faced with development applications like Fountain Street is years of delay, caused in large part by United for Woodbridge and its allies.

By blocking responsible growth at places like the Country Club of Woodbridge, they have set the stage for the town and its residents to have less control over shaping their growth.

It is also clear that they don’t want you to know about the progress already happening:

We believe voters deserve honest debate about the future of Woodbridge, not fear tactics and misinformation.

While others recycle old grudges and rewrite history, we will continue to focus on facts, transparency, and building a stronger Woodbridge for every resident.
